I think you should probably add “Every Breathe You Take - The Police” to the list. It reminds me a lot of the Bon Jovi song aswell.

Hey guys,

I agree with Joe Jensen. We sure need to know what to avoid…but we also need to know what to get! And not only regarding music… Scot, I’ve been meaning to ask you for a while to get together a list of the best movies every guy should watch (the idea got started when you mentioned “Roman Holiday” somewhere and talked about the attitude projected by the guy in that movie).

So? what do you guys think? Two new blog posts, one for songs, one for movies?

I’ll take a look at “Can I Steal A Little Love”.

But it really does frustrate me when people talk about their favorite songs, but when I call them on it they claim they love the music but don’t really pay attention to the words (Lennon’s _Imagine_ being a prime example).

Oh well. I remember the days when my sister and I went to college (a commuter one) and we used to listen to the radio on the way in. After we’d play “name the song” we’d analyze the relationships described… “she’s clingy,” “he needs to grow some balls,” “they need to take a break.” Funny how there are so few normal relationships enshrined in song.

Nice post, Austin. There are so many “love” songs out there that make me cringe. They are like a part of the mass media campaign to brain wash men into wussiness.

It’d be great if you could post something on films to avoid - they are even worth I think!

Avi, you’re a guy I could have a beer with.

Sometimes I sit Emily on a bar stool up front at our favorite karaoke place and sing “Can I Steal A Little Love” to her.

She eats it up.

Yeah…now that’s telling it like it is with an ATTITUDE. Igniting that femininity like a champ while still showing some healthy interest.

Sinatra rocked.

Other HORRIBLE “Mr. Nice Guy” classics, though, could include:

Misty (Johnny Mathis)
Faithfully and/or Open Arms (Journey)

That’s the problem in singing karaoke. One time I was singing Motown and almost got nauseous over the lyrics I was saying. Ouch.

Better is Sinatra and the like. In my vocal range and a lot more masculine.

I will say though, I was at a Bon Jovi concert with my moms friends, women were going nuts for always. Though, you have to be Bon Jovi for that effect. James Blunt, yeck. ZZ Top should be prescription for those influenced by Blunt, or something else along those lines.

The first ten or so times I heard James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful”, I didn’t even realize that it was a guy singing the song.

I’ve also seen women on match and yahoo post the full lyrics to that song as their profile text. Yow.

This is something I think about quite often, actually.

That James Blunt tune in particular really bums me out.

The first time Emily and I ever took an extended road trip that song was popular and they kept playing it and playing it on the radio. We finally just turned the blasted radio off.

I’ve always wondered how Motown got a “free pass” in the wussy-boy lyrics department for so many years. I honestly think women LOVE LOVE LOVE this sort of mushy, weak-kneed lyrics even though they can’t stand when guys are like that in real life.

One of life’s great ironies, and probably one more reason why so many guys are so confused about what women want nowadays.
